If you are an adult child in NZ sponsoring a parent through the Parent Resident Visa ballot pathway
Parent Boost Visitor Visa Assistance — New Zealand
A standard visitor visa isn't long enough. The Parent Boost is.
Extended continuous stay for parents of New Zealand citizens or residents — well beyond standard visitor limits.
The basics
What is the Parent Boost Visitor Visa?
A long-duration visitor visa from Immigration New Zealand for parents of adult New Zealand citizens or residents — designed for extended family reunification, not short visits, and not a pathway to residence.
Purpose
Long-duration visitor visa for parents of adult NZ citizens or residents, designed for extended reunification.
Length of stay
Multi-entry stay of up to five years from first entry. A further visa for a second equivalent term can be applied for after an offshore period.
Work rights
Cannot work for a NZ employer. Remote work for an overseas employer is the narrow exception INZ recognise.
Study
Limited study generally permitted within a capped period.
Medical
Not entitled to publicly funded healthcare. Acceptable insurance is required for the duration.
Compliance
A mid-visa compliance check sits between years three and four of the first visa, and must be completed to keep the visa valid.
Not sure if the Parent Boost is the right fit? Some families need a longer-stay visitor visa, others need residence, and others just need a few weeks. Talk to us so we can match the right pathway to your family's actual goal.
Years of shared routine with a parent in New Zealand — birthdays, school pick-ups, winter evenings — rather than counting down the weeks of a short visit.
When our help makes a difference
Where we step in — and what we do
Some immigration processes are approved without much friction. Some situations carry real risk of delay, hard pushback or decline.
Real cases · Illustrative
Situations we've helped with
Every case is different. These are illustrative and don't guarantee a particular outcome.
Avoidable problems
Common risks — and how to reduce them
Visitor Visa applications can be declined or delayed for reasons that are sometimes avoidable with better preparation.
- 01High impact
Genuine intentions assessment
Weak ties to a home country, inconsistent travel history, or vague explanations of the purpose of a visit can raise concerns. A well-prepared application addresses these points directly with supporting evidence.
- 02High impact
Insufficient financial evidence
Bare-minimum bank balances, unclear income sources, or missing sponsorship documentation can lead to requests for further information or decline.
- 03Medium impact
Health and character flags
Applicants from countries without a low TB incidence may need a chest X-ray. Those with criminal history may need police certificates. Out-of-date evidence delays processing.
- 04Medium impact
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date. Travelling on a passport close to expiry can result in being refused boarding or refused entry at the border.
- 05High impact
Misrepresentation
Providing false, misleading, or incomplete information — even unintentionally — can result in decline, and may affect future visa applications.
- 06Manageable
Timing
Applying too close to your intended travel date, or failing to apply for an extension before your current visa expires, creates complications that are difficult to resolve.
Important constraints
What the Parent Boost Visitor Visa doesn't cover
The Parent Boost is a visitor visa. If your family's actual goal is permanent settlement, work in New Zealand, or a short visit, a different pathway fits better.
Not permitted
The Parent Boost is the wrong fit if any of these applies.
Lodging under the wrong pathway wastes time and money. We'll tell you up front if a different parent visa fits your situation better.
Work for a New Zealand employer
Not permitted. Remote work for an overseas employer is the narrow exception INZ recognises.
Access publicly funded healthcare
Not entitled. Acceptable insurance is required for the duration of the visa.
Include dependent children on the visa
Dependent children of the applicant cannot be included.
Move to New Zealand permanently as a parent
Not a residence pathway. See Parent Residence Visa or Parent Retirement Residence Visa.
Apply for a visit of a few weeks or months
A Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa or General Visitor Visa may fit better.

Working with us
What the process looks like
We will guide you step by step on your Parent Boost Visitor Visa process, from start to finish.
Initial enquiry
Short conversation to understand the family's goal, the sponsor's position, and whether the Parent Boost is the right pathway or a residence or shorter-visit option fits better.
Service engagement
Letter of engagement signed, invoice paid. We open the file and decide whether the applicants apply together or in sequence.
Evidence preparation
We work through the sponsor's income evidence, the applicant's documentation, insurance policy review against INZ requirements, and any partner documents — so the application is complete on first submission.
Lodgement
We file the application on your behalf and confirm receipt with Immigration New Zealand.
Monitoring & response
If INZ requests further information mid-process, we draft the response with you. We also flag what needs to be tracked for the mid-visa compliance check.
Decision & next steps
We walk you through the outcome. If granted, we explain the conditions and what needs to happen at the mid-visa compliance check. If declined, we work through reasons and your realistic options.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Yes. We can set out the options alongside the family’s goals and timeframe, and note where each tends to fit. This is decision support rather than a determination — the right choice depends on circumstances that may change, and we re-check the position closer to the time of application.
It depends on the sponsor’s capacity to support one or two applicants, the family’s timing, and how the partner’s circumstances read against the visa. The sequencing choice matters because a partner cannot be added after grant. We work through the trade-offs with the family before a decision is made.
Spend the years together. We'll handle the visa.
Whether your immigration process is straightforward or involves complicating factors, we can help you understand your options and put your best case forward.
