Background
[Applicant A] applied for a Student Visa to study English in New Zealand, with support from a well-regarded education agent who helped coordinate his enrolment. Immigration New Zealand raised concerns about the application. He was living in the lower South Island and had a bank account showing his available funds.
Our approach
We prepared a full response that engaged with each concern, with bank evidence of his funds, documents about his course and study plan, and a cover letter from us. We worked alongside the education agent, who handled the enrolment and payment side, so both parts of the application moved together.
Outcome
The Student Visa was approved within 28 days. A clear, well-evidenced response showed Immigration he was a genuine student with the means to study, and he went on to obtain further Student Visas.
Lessons
A concern about a student’s intentions is best met with a clear, evidence-backed response. We addressed each of Immigration’s points, covering both why the study plan was genuine and how it would be paid for, which together showed [Applicant A] had real intent and the means to follow through.
A good education agent and the legal side work best together. The agent handled enrolment, tuition payment, and the New Zealand-side liaison, while we dealt with Immigration’s substantive concerns, so the application kept moving on both fronts.
Evidence of funds does not need to be elaborate. A straightforward bank account suited to his age and circumstances gave Immigration the financial transparency it needed.
Each successful student application builds a track record. This approval, after the initial concern, was followed by further Student Visas, with each one reinforced by the record of the application before it.
