Answering false information concerns on a work visa

A Filipino nail technician's work visa was put in doubt when Immigration spotted mismatches in her work-experience paperwork and suggested she may have given false information. We explained every discrepancy, proved her job was genuine, and asked Immigration to judge her fairly.

Background

[Applicant A] worked at an established beauty salon in the Philippines and applied for an Accredited Employer Work Visa to build her career in New Zealand. While checking her work-experience evidence, Immigration found a wrong office code on her employer’s tax form, a mismatch in her social-security contribution records, and that her personal social media mentioned a small side project but not her main salon job.

Our approach

We answered each point. The wrong office code was a clerical mistake in the employer’s template, and the employer took responsibility and reissued corrected forms. The contribution mismatch came from a lawful and common Philippine practice where the employer quietly pays a larger share while official records still show the standard split, with the full amounts properly paid. The side project was a separate, part-time venture kept deliberately apart from the salon’s branding, which is why it did not name the salon. We showed she had nothing to hide, had provided independently verifiable records up front, and had moved quickly to correct the errors, and we asked Immigration to judge her fairly on the genuine evidence.

Outcome

Immigration New Zealand accepted the response and granted the work visa.

Lessons

A false-information concern is serious and has to be answered directly, by showing exactly how each error arose and that there was no intent to deceive. Every paperwork mismatch should be traced to its source and fixed with corrected documents and an employer letter taking responsibility. And where a foreign tax or pay practice looks odd to a New Zealand officer, explaining it plainly removes the suspicion.
