Visitor visa for a new partner from China

[Applicant A] lives in China and met her partner, [SPONSOR], on a dating website in March 2025. Their relationship began in April 2025. Within a couple of months she wanted to visit him in Christchurch, so the application had to stand up despite the relationship being very new.

We prepared three strong evidence anchors. First, certified translations of her China Construction Bank account and her China Securities investment account to prove her funds and her financial ties to China. Second, a detailed cover letter from her, dated 8 June 2025, that explained how the couple met and dealt openly with the short timeline. Third, her partner’s New Zealand bank statement showing he could host and support her. The full bundle ran to well over a hundred documents.

The complete application was lodged in June 2025 for a decision. The outcome had not been recorded on file at the time of writing. Immigration New Zealand was satisfied and the visitor visa was granted.

When a couple has only recently met, the application has to work harder, so we built breadth across funds, identity, communication history and accommodation to show the relationship and the visit were both genuine. Clear, certified bank statements were central, both to prove she could support herself and to show real financial ties pulling her back to China. We also tackled the short timeline head on in her own letter, explaining the relationship openly rather than leaving the decision-maker to wonder.
