Visitor visa won after a name mix-up

[Applicant A] is the Thai partner of [SPONSOR], a New Zealand resident in Christchurch. Like many Thai applicants, she has more than one legal name on her records. An earlier visit application had been filed under one version of her name, while her passport showed another, which caused confusion.

We filed a fresh application under her main legal name and provided a detailed letter, dated 5 October 2025, that explained both versions of her name and cross-referenced the earlier file. We documented the sponsorship from her partner in Christchurch and provided the usual supporting bundle for an offshore Thai applicant.

Immigration New Zealand granted the visitor visa on 23 October 2025, completing a journey of about eleven months that included clearing the earlier request for more information.

Applicants with more than one legal name should always provide both, together with documents that connect them, so identity is never in question. A request for more information is a pause, not a decline, and a clear, well evidenced response can resolve it. Where an earlier file caused confusion, starting fresh under the main legal name, while openly explaining the other name, often clears the path to approval.
